I Just Downloaded the LaserHIT App. Now What?

You opened the LaserHIT App, and the options look exciting, but maybe a little overwhelming. Where do you start? Which practice should you choose first?

Let’s be honest: hardly anyone wants to read long manuals or sit through tutorials before training. Most of us already have a picture in our mind of what “laser training” looks like, often based on flashy online ads that show impressive setups that do not quite match real-life experience.

This post will help you take your first steps with the LaserHIT App, understand how it works, and get to your first successful session faster.

What the App Really Is

LaserHIT is not a pre-programmed simulator or a video game. It is a precision measurement tool that captures your real actions in real time.
The app uses your phone’s camera as a detector that measures every laser hit down to fractions of a second. The result is real data in real measurement units. There is no video recording, no screenshots capture, no cloud storage, and no user tracking.

Think of it as your personal dry-fire range. The app gives you instant visual and audio feedback while you focus on technique, timing, and accuracy.

Getting Through the First Practice

When you launch the app for the first time, you will see a guided setup with on-screen steps and audible instructions. This onboarding might feel a bit long, but go through it to understand how the app tracks your shots and reads your targets. You will need to complete this initial process for each practice once, since every mode has a slightly different setup and confirmation sequence.

After you complete your first practice and reach the CeaseFire point, tap the Reload Mark to restart your training directly from your firing line.
Next time, when you return to the Firing Range Setup, open More Settings, scroll down, and select Express Setup.
Now the app will skip step-by-step guidance, and you can do setup in 2-3 quick steps before start training. If you want to return directly to your last used practice, enable Skip to Last Practice on the second screen. This option appears after you finish your first full session.

Choosing the Right Cartridge Type

This step is important. The Cartridge Type setting on the Main Menu tells the app how to detect and interpret the laser signal.

If you are using a genuine LaserHIT cartridge, simply select the left-side tile.

To explore other options, visit Cartridge Types  webpage. Click Other to see short videos showing how different laser cartridges work with the LaserHIT system.

If you are using a third-party cartridge or laser training device, select Other in the app and choose the closest match. Each laser type behaves differently, and the app automatically adjusts its timing and sensitivity to minimize false, double, or ghost hits. Spending a few seconds here ensures the best accuracy and reliability in your setup.

Exploring the Practices

Once you reach the Practices screen, you will see four modes. Two of them, FreeTarget and Black Steel, are ready right away.

Each mode has a Basic and an Advanced level. These labels do not reflect your shooting skill but the number of adjustable settings available. The more options you open, the more flexibility you have to build drills that match your goals.

FreeTarget lets you define your own target(s) or even use an object as your target to track hit/not hit, while Black Steel focuses on structured scoring zones and timing.
Together, they cover everything you need for most dry-fire training goals, from accuracy and timing to multi-target transitions.

If you ever run out of ideas, check the About and Tutorial videos available in the app, or visit our Blog section for ready-to-run drill examples.

Getting Help When You Need It

Each screen in the LaserHIT App includes a Help icon in the upper right corner. Tapping it gives you short, practical explanations relevant to the screen you are on.

Our website also includes Manuals ( for IOS and Android) with video demonstrations and step-by-step examples for all main setups.
If something still feels unclear, you can always reach us through email or the support link on the website or in the app. We are never more than a step away.

Before You Go

Your first session is about understanding how everything connects: the phone camera, the target, and your laser cartridge. Once you see that first hit appear in real time, the system begins to make sense.

After that, you can explore Express Setup, adjust the display of your results, or create custom training sessions that match your skill level.
LaserHIT was designed to make dry-fire training accurate, efficient, and repeatable. Everything else is already in your hands.
