500YD RANGE™ INSIGHT: STAY ONLY AT 8 YARDS?
By now, you know the number: 8 yards for scoped-rifle practice with 500yd Range™, recreating distances from 100 to 500 yards. But do you really have to stay at exactly 8 yards?
What if your room gives you only 6 yards? Or 5? Or 4?
What if your rifle is perfectly comfortable indoors with a red dot, EOTECH, LPVO, or simply iron sights?
Do you really need to fight for those 8 yards?
Here is where the LaserHIT App and Positional Targets™ show what they can really do. Multi-distance, multi-target auto-recognition takes your actual firing distance and adjusts the recreated distances for you.
TELL THE APP THE TRUTH.
To keep the results honest, there is one rule you should not compromise:
Enter your actual firing distance in Firing Range Setup.
If your setup gives you 5 yards, enter 5 yards. If it gives you 6.5 yards, enter 6.5 yards.
Do not enter 8 yards simply because 8 yards is our recommended setup.
Why?
Because your actual firing distance determines what each scaled target represents.
Change the firing distance, and the recreated distances change with it.
The targets stay the same. The App does the calculation.
MOVE THE FIRING LINE. WATCH WHAT HAPPENS.
Move away from the 8-yard firing line, and your Positional Targets™ no longer represent 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 yards.
During Step 2 of Express Setup, the LaserHIT App detects each target and displays its adjusted recreated distance. Your 100–500 yard set may now represent, for example, 62 to 324 yards.
Check those distances before you begin.
Move closer. Enter your actual firing distance. See what the targets represent.
Move farther away. Update the firing distance and check again.
Now the same four Positional Targets™ can work across a much wider variety of indoor firing distances.
8 YARDS IS NOT AN ARBITRARY NUMBER. IT IS OPTIMIZED FOR SCOPED RIFLES.
There is a reason we recommend 8 yards for the standard scoped-rifle 500yd Range™ setup.
It gives you the intended 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500-yard recreated distances and is optimized to work with the LaserHIT Scope Focus Adapter for short-distance scoped-rifle practice.
With a scoped rifle and Scope Focus Adapter, start at 8 yards.
Without the Focus Adapter, you have more freedom. Choose a practical firing distance and let the App adjust the recreated distances.
NOW GET A LITTLE CREATIVE
Have a laser trainer sitting around the house?
Bring it in.
Use the same Positional Targets™, enter your actual firing distance, and turn ordinary shot-count practice into something with defined targets, recreated distances, Zone scores, split times, and elapsed time.
Instead of:
“I fired 50 shots today.”
Start asking:
How did I shoot those 50?
From which position?
At what recreated distance?
How quickly?
What happened when I changed position or support?
Can I reproduce it tomorrow?
Now the shot count has a job.
BEFORE YOU GO
500yd Range™ brings the targets to work with your shooting position.
It also gives you the freedom to move the firing line.
Four Positional Targets™. One App. Different physical distances. More ways to put them to work.
Just remember the rule:
Whatever distance you choose, keep your setup honest and practical. Realistic input gives you meaningful results.
