What You Can Do with Black Steel Advanced

Competition-style dry fire, ready to run

The moment you open Black Steel Advanced, the app is already configured for structured, zone-based target training that closely mirrors practical shooting competitions.

There is no need to adjust anything. You can begin immediately.

Default Training Distance

The default firing distance is 10 feet. This value appears in every setup screen, from Basic to Pro. You are encouraged to enter your actual target distance (from gun muzzle to the target), but if not changed, the system will use 10 feet as the reference for simulated range calculations.

This enables precise scaling for multiple targets, especially in confined spaces.

Default Drill Behavior

Here is what you get without making any changes.

Target Style

The system expects LaserHIT B3-type silhouettes.
These targets match the shape and scoring logic of USPSA competition targets.

On-Screen Feedback

  • Target number (index)

  • Number of hits per target

  • Simulated target distance (range)

  • Zone hit detection (A, C, D, etc.)

  • Timer tracking from first to last shot

  • Highlight of your best hit

When a shot lands, the app highlights the matching scoring zone in red. This gives instant confirmation of both accuracy and precision. It goes beyond simple hit-or-miss feedback.

What’s Off by Default

You will not hear voice prompts unless you activate them.
You will not see windage-elevation, group size, or split times unless you choose to turn them on.
End-of-session announcements are limited to basic performance stats, such as time and hits per target.

This creates a clean and focused session with visual feedback only.

What This Default Setup Gives You

Black Steel Advanced opens with a configuration that closely simulates the structure and rhythm of a USPSA-style dry-fire drill. It is ready to go, with performance-focused logic built in.

Here is what you get from the start:

  • Zoning feedback highlights where each shot landed by marking the scoring zone in red

  • Multiple target tracking is active, using index numbers and simulated range per target

  • Scoring zone logic mirrors practical shooting targets like USPSA A, C, and D zones

  • Real-time shot mapping links hit number, hit location, and zone result

  • Elapsed timer tracks your performance from first shot to last

This default setup supports target transitions, timing pressure, and zone scoring.
You are shooting at multiple scaled targets, spaced by simulated distance. Each hit is recorded and reported visually, zone by zone, as you move through a realistic dry-fire stage.

No recalibration is needed. No extra configuration is required. You can run structured, timed sessions with real feedback—immediately.

How This Mirrors USPSA Competition

This default setup shares several key traits with real USPSA match stages:

USPSA Component

Black Steel Advanced Default

Multiple scoring zones (A, C, D)

Zone detection and highlight on B3 target layout

Time pressure

Elapsed timer built in

Multiple targets

Multi-target tracking and range estimation

Hit count per target

On-screen results correlate hits to targets

Score per hit zone

Hit zones visually confirmed and highlighted

Silent operation for focus

Voice feedback off by default

You are not moving between shooting boxes, but the feedback loop of accuracy, timing, and scoring logic remains the same.

Before You Go

The default setup in Black Steel Advanced already offers a structured and responsive drill environment. Once you are familiar with it, adding more detail is simple. You can enable hit placement, activate split time tracking, or introduce new target types when you are ready. These options allow you to match the training to your specific pace and goals.

The core experience is already built to deliver clear, competitive feedback with every shot. You decide how far to take it.
