The Advanced Features Already on Your Device
There’s More Power in Your LaserHIT App Than You Think
There’s a quiet truth we need to talk about.
Many users think they already know how the LaserHIT app works.
They’ve opened Basic Practice, maybe watched a tutorial (or skipped it), and ran a few dry-fire sessions. They got results. It worked. So they stayed with it.
But if you are still running only Basic drills, you have not yet seen what the LaserHIT app is fully capable of.
You’re not alone, just working with the familiar
LaserHIT was designed as a professional-grade training lab, not just a basic dry-fire tool.
Still, it is easy to fall into a routine that uses only the most visible features.
The Black Steel Advanced Level offers a flexible and deeply configurable set of training tools. It includes live feedback, multi-target drills, measurable grouping, real-world calibration, custom scoring zones, and more. Everything is customizable directly from your phone, and no additional hardware is needed.
A Brief Look Inside Black Steel Advanced
Black Steel Advanced is not an upgrade. It is a core module of the app. It is free and available on both iOS and Android. Here’s what it can do:
Works with full-size and scaled targets, from 1:1 to 1:100 scale
Supports multi-target setups in the same session
Accurately registers up to 10 hits per second. Suitable for rapid fire and side-by-side competitive shooting (dueling)
Accepts a wide range of laser training gear (Generic, CFT, DFM, MBB, NLT, Laser Trainer). Tap on Others under Cartridge Type on the Main menu
Compatible with red, green, and blue lasers (IR is not supported)
Enables concealed acquisition drills (1 shot / hit zone) and transition acquisition drills (2 shots / hit zone, with split time)
Includes built-in support for long-range target simulations, up to 1000 yards within indoor space
Provides both imperial and metric measurement systems, including SMOA, TMOA, MRAD, and MIL
Includes an optional audio spotter (Virtual Spotter) that announces split time, hit placement, group measurement, and more
Offers end-of-session summaries that include hit count, total time, grouping data, and scoring zones, only if enabled
All these tools are already inside your app and available now.
Why These Features Are Often Overlooked
With a system as flexible as LaserHIT, it is easy to stick with the basics and never go further.
The app includes guidance screens, tutorials, and in-app instructions, but deeper capabilities may remain hidden if they are not explored directly.
The Advanced Modes are not promoted as “separate” apps or hidden behind paywalls. They are part of the standard installation, and all configuration is controlled by the user under the Advanced Level menu.
Understanding the Advanced Setup Flow
Launching Black Steel Advanced will take you to the Firing Range setup screen. It is designed in clearly organized blocks:
Target Settings (iOS only): used to select and set up Custom or LaserHIT B3 target types
On-Screen Results: allows you to choose what will be displayed during your session, including hits per target, hit zone, split time, range, and more
Virtual Spotter: enables or disables real-time voice feedback per shot
Session Summary: lets you choose which results you want to hear or review at the end
Common Settings: includes familiar tools from Basic mode, such as hit size, shot count, and timing options
Environmental Corrections: allows for better performance in low light, non-stable floors, or bright interference areas
You do not need to activate every option. Most shooters use only what is relevant to a specific drill. Adjustments are fast and can be changed between sessions without delay.
At this time, saving drill presets is not supported. However, once you are familiar with the layout, switching from one drill to another takes less than a minute.
The Hidden Gem: Express Setup
One of the most efficient ways to jump back into training is by using Express Setup. This becomes available after your first completed session.
From the app’s opening screen, tap "Skip to Last Practice" to return to your last drill setup and proceed using Express Setup.
Alternatively, inside the Firing Range screen, you can select "Express Setup" under More Settings to bypass the full setup walkthrough.
This takes you directly to two quick confirmation steps:
Target, Reload mark and lighting check
Target recognition and shape adjustment
Once confirmed, your session begins.
Before You Go
You do not need to change your gear. You do not need to sign in or learn anything new before getting started.
What you need is already in your app. The default setup in Black Steel Advanced gives you a complete drill environment, including zoning feedback, simulated distance, and session timing. It highlights your hits by scoring zone, shows how many landed on each target, and tracks your time from first to last shot. This structure mirrors practical shooting formats where precision and speed matter.
Everything is ready. Just open the app, select your Practice, and tap into Advanced.
