Express Setup: Two Steps to Trustworthy Practice

LaserHIT includes an efficient shortcut to get you back into training quickly. After your first few sessions, when you return to your Firing Range setup, open More Settings, scroll down, and turn Express Setup on. This setting applies separately to each Practice mode.
If you plan to stay with the same Practice for a while, save even more time by checking Skip to Last Practice on the second App screen.

What is Express Setup

Express Setup is your reliability check. In just two quick steps, it confirms that your phone camera, target, and lighting are properly aligned so every shot is registered and scored consistently.
Why this matters goes beyond accuracy? It reduces mental load, builds confidence, and ensures feedback you can trust. If the camera misreads the laser dot or glare covers the target, your results will show error instead of skill. Express Setup removes that uncertainty so your practice becomes a repeatable and measurable process.

Why position and distance matter

Phone position and distance determine how the camera interprets target geometry and laser hits. Keep your phone in landscape orientation to widen the field of view, especially helpful when working with scaled targets or on-screen data overlays. Place the phone close enough to the target for a clear image rather than guessing from too far away.
From a behavioral perspective, maintaining a short, consistent setup routine reduces friction and increases the likelihood you will train more often and with better quality.

Step 1: Light check and Reload mark confirmation

This quick step solves most setup issues. The phone camera automatically highlights oversaturated areas on the screen in red. These highlights show where you may need to adjust your lighting, either reduce brightness or add light, to achieve an evenly lit target area.
When the Reload Mark is confirmed, a red frame will appear around it. This mark lets you restart your Practice remotely, directly from your firing line.

The rule is simple: keep the target and Reload mark free of red zones. Red areas can blind the camera and prevent hit registration. Adjust lighting or reposition the phone before continuing.

Hints:
• The top panel displays system status and setup tips
• A red confirmation frame appears when the Reload mark is detected
• White lines or frames indicate an element is detected; red lines confirm full recognition
• If focus appears soft, tap the screen to initiate refocus

Step 2: Target confirmation

Depending on the selected Practice mode, the app uses slightly different techniques to confirm your target or targets.
In Free Target (Advanced), the app displays a crosshair on the target to confirm your custom Vital Zone.
In BlackSteel, it provides a side slider to verify target shapes, distances, and quantities. Follow the on-screen prompts; this step takes only a few seconds.

Hints:
• Secure the target firmly on all four corners so it does not hang loose
• Ensure the target is straight and that the phone camera faces it directly for precise alignment and accurate results

Faster setup, better practice

Express Setup takes less than 60 seconds but saves hours of frustration. A consistent setup reduces measurement error, shortens the feedback loop, and turns every session into meaningful practice instead of trial and error.

Before you go

Run Express Setup before every session, especially when changing lighting, targets, or phone position. Treat it like a pre-firing ritual, and train with confidence knowing your results reflect your performance, not camera or lighting faults.
